WREXIT: The End of Civilization as we know it?
What have we, the American people, done? As a liberal, a Democrat and a woman I have been a strong supporter of Hillary throughout this election, despite the fact that she can’t spell Hilary! Despite her weaknesses, I had no choice. For me Donald Trump was just not a option. Leaving aside the obvious (misogyny, narcissism, disrespect, lack of experience, unstable personality and all the rest), I have a number of reasons for not supporting him. These are such minor (minimized) issues as the increased risk of nuclear war, the undoing of a global trade system and wrecking of the environment. Trump has promised to undo the last eight years and more of negotiations and agreements that currently hold the world just off the precipice of disaster in each of these three areas. The most frightening of these is the image of Trump with his finger on the Red Button, the nuclear trigger…
My issues are global. While many of my fellow Americans are concerned about jobs, the US economy and the cost of healthcare, I am taking a wider view. At no time has the risk of a major disaster in the Middle East loomed so large. North Korea has, or will soon have, the nuclear capability to attack the US. The global environment is deteriorating rapidly, the only possibility of slowing the pace lies in those long-negotiated agreements signed by most of the major world powers.
Many questions remain, some of which have, to my mind, barely concealed answers. Who initiated the actions of the FBI that may have helped to unseat Hillary? Rachel Maddow gave some clues in her recent investigation of those events. Why hasn’t the FBI Director’s name come up in the post-election dialogues I have heard? If the American People want change in Washington, how come they re-elected most of the existing Congress?
It’s all an enigma.
One thing I do believe. We Americans have failed. In our over-arching need to succeed and our greed, the county’s wealth has risen to the top and we have failed to provide the necessary funds and resources to educate two generations or more of lower income and impoverished Americans. If a candidate for President doesn’t know where or what Aleppo is, maybe it’s not so surprising that many of our less fortunate children can’t identify other countries on a map and are failing at reading, writing and ‘rithmetic. The first under-educated generation can’t communicate to its own children. It does not pass on knowledge, judgement or values to them and the result is…………WREXIT?
